International Women's Day
Washington, March 8, 2003
Responding to a "Code Pink" alert, several thousand women and supporters marched in Washington, D.C. on International Women's Day to protest against the planned U.S. war in Iraq.
A group of 23 women were arrested in front of the White House, including authors Alice Walker and Maxine Hong Kingston, a hint at the mass civil disobedience planned when the first bombs drop on Baghdad.
